Perioperative RN – Operating Room
Position Summary

A registered nurse will be present and circulate for every surgical event in ASC. Will adhere to policies of Apex Surgical Center and AORN Standards.

Main Function

To provide appropriate perioperative patient care by planning, organizing and implementing actions required to insure patient safety. This includes having the needed supplies and equipment. The circulating nurse works as a team member and in collaboration with the whole surgical team.

  1. The Perioperative RN is directly accountable to the Director / Administrator.
  2. The Perioperative RN works in collaboration with Medical staff, nursing colleagues, and surgical technicians.
  3. The Perioperative RN directs non-professional staff.
  1. Current RN New York State licensure.
  2. Minimum 2 years of recent perioperative experience (orthopedic experience preferred).
  3. Current BCLS. , ACLS encouraged.
  4. AORN membership preferred, CNOR encouraged
Physical Requirements

The Perioperative RN must be able to engage in physical activities on a daily basis.  As a direct patient caregiver the perioperative RN will maintain:

  1. Hepatitis immunization (Will be provided at no cost to the employee) or documented refusal to be vaccinated.
  2. Evidence of negative Mantoux or chest x-ray annually (Will be provided at no cost to the employee).
  3. A certificate of immunization against rubella.
  4. A certificate of immunization against measles, for all persons born on or after January 1, 1957.
  5. Annual health assessment which is sufficient in scope to ensure the employee is free from a health impairment which is a potential risk to patients or which may interfere with the performance of his/her duties.
  6. Able to maintain extensive standing, moderated sitting and retracting and assisting in the transfer of patients weighing less than 300 lbs.
  7. Physically able to perform CPR.
  8. Able to lift a minimum of 50#, surgical instrumentation or equipment.
Typical Working Conditions

Requires exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, therapeutic preparations, and other conditions common to a healthcare environment.
